The Opposite of Elevated

I didn't feel annoyed when I started writing this blog, but suddenly, when thinking about my pet peeve of the week, I do. I've been thinking for a while how the word I despise most these days is "elevated." We're all supposed to be trying for an "elevated" look, our house decor should be "elevated", blah blah blah. I think what people mean by it is: rich. We're all trying to look richer than we are. There's something so snooty and untruthful about trying to rise out of yourself. All the influencers telling you what clothing piece you need right now and how to wear it in the same way that everyone else is - boring. I actually want to de-elevate. My style icon isn't so much rich tech mogul as it is Victorian urchin. All throughout grade school, I had to wear a uniform, so I think I've been going through my middle school fashion rebellion for the last few decades. All I want is loose, colourful, and fun. Neutral tones can sod right off. Do what you want with clothes, but please don't bore me. The internet started as a vehicle for uniquness and creativity, but these days it seems to be sinking into uniformity and blah-ness. We all say we want to be unique, but we all fear being too far out of the herd. Understandable for evolutionary survival, but also sad. And I get that I'm hardly a fasion maverick, but I'll be damned if I'm going to try to wear a trench coat or blazer when it just doesn't feel remotely like me. I get ticked off when AI volunteers to write my emails or even this blog. I get to write as I like from what I think and feel, thanks all the same. It may not be genius, but it's what I got. Uniquely me. De-elevate with me, won't you? I hear life is pretty cozy at the bottom.
