Why a Blog? Whatchew got to say?

Bloggety, blog, blog! Who would have thought I'd become a blogger? And why would I want to, anyway? Well, since it's my first blog entry, maybe I'll talk a bit about why I'm doing this, how often I plan to publish and what I think I can offer the Blogiverse. First off, I love to write. Well, actually, that's not really true. What I love doing is thinking about stuff, doing a bunch of research, forming an opinion, and mouthing off about it. And, while those around me (which mostly means my husband) receive the benefit of my "deep thoughts" on the issues (in the totally ironic, SNL/Jack Handley sense of the phrase), the ideas don't spread much further. So writing seems like a good means of dispersing the dandelion seeds that are my thoughts and observations onto the grass that is popular consciousness (I hope just that simile has made your day a little brighter). I hope to do this about once a month. Maybe, if I'm really productive, I'll bump that up to twice a month, if something really exciting happens or I get a cool idea. And now for the biggie: what do I plan to write about? Well, there are several issues/categories that interest me. One is children, particularly issues relating to education, adolescence (my older daughter is just turning 11 - yikes, Middle School!), and the transitions moms make as their kids grow up. The other is science, particularly neurology, although I'm also fascinated by astronomy and paleo/biology (really paelo/anything). Interesting that this Blog is on my actor website, and I haven't mentioned anything about acting yet, isn't it? That's because I see acting as fitting into my larger interest, which is truth about the world. Sounds pompous, I know, but it's kind of true. I really dig discovering what's at the bottom of all human behavior and existence, and I think acting, along with literature, poetry, dance, painting, sculpture, all creative media, gets at the truth of what makes us tick. There is no bigger thrill for me than to be in the middle of an acting piece, whether on film or on stage, and find myself discovering a common truth about emotion or behavior by simply listening and responding to another human being in a given circumstance. It's awesome! It's fundamental. And that right there is a major truth: creating things is at the heart of what makes us human. Ooooh. So that's my deal dear ones, gentle readers, invisible minion. Yay, my first blog, finished! Next time, maybe I'll write about Mexico (my family just got back from a week's vacation there) 'Till then, I remain...
Bloggily Yours, (OK, I'm hating that.)
Eve
